Near perfect hand grinder for espresso
***UPDATE 4/2021***I had some issues with my grinder after just over a year of use. The knob started to bind during use and eventually failed (pops off and was filled with metal shavings).I contacted 1Zpresso directly and provided photos of the issue. The customer service was prompt and courteous. They helped me source replacement parts from their website, a new knob and handle. The items arrived in three days to the west coast from Taiwan. I must note that the new handle and knob are of a new design. It appears that my unit was a very early one (December 2019), most of the pictures I see online from reviews after mine are of a newer handle and knob design. The main difference is the the knob is more rounded on top and has more drop in it to lower the knob during use. The bearing on the knob also has a cover over it, which my initial unit did not. The updated handle looks to be stout and I am looking forward to more time with this excellent grinder.Original Review:I recently got a Rancilio Silvia for my birthday and needed to up my grinder game to match. I have been doing pour overs and Aeropress for years and always used a hand grinder. I truly find joy in the process.I started looking at large counter top electric models, resigning myself to spending over $300 to get something decent. But the more I thought about it, I really didn't want to give up on hand grinding. Also the more I looked into it, the major items that fail on electric grinders are the motor or the gear drive. Neither of these are an issue with hand grinders. The 1Zpresso JX-Pro, falls into a sweet spot on pricing for high-end hand grinders. I have tried most of the top models and this holds its own against the Comandantes Lidos, & Helors of the world at a considerably lower entry point. The materials are top notch, it is made extremely well, and feels great in your hand. I am also blown away by the speed it grinds. It is considerably fast that other grinders I have used. The grind adjustments are easy to understand and there is plenty of range if you want to go between drip methods and espresso. The adjustment location being on the top of the grinder make for easy adjustment with less mess.Overall this is a stout grinder that performs very well across grind types. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a hand grinder capable enough for espresso at a cost far less than similar rivals.

I originally purchased the 1zpresso (which is apparently EASY-presso as 1 is pronounced ee in Mandarin, very clever) grinder as a secondary grinder with intent to keep using my electric Virtuoso Plus grinder. But when I tasted the coffee from this little hand mill I realized that it simply was better. My Chemexes all came out clearer and I really felt I was getting the most out of my beans. The tiny adjustments also meant I could start pulling real espresso and toss the pressurized basket out the window. This thing gets through 18 grams of coffee at my Chemex setting in 30 seconds and at most it takes a minute for 18 grams of espresso grind. Both of my other grinders went into storage after this (the virtuoso and a little Turkish hand grinder - the JX pro grinds for Turkish in half the time and goes finer, closer to the Mehmet Efendi grind). The adjustment system is easy to use and in my opinion better placed here than on the bottom like on other hand grinders. At least for me since my grind settings for various methods don't land on the same number on the dial (eg. I use 19 for moka pot, 07 for Turkish, 25.5 for V60/chemex) seeing the dial when you open up the grinder to put beans in is useful since in the morning I might not remember what I had the grinder set to, so I find out I have it set wrong *before* I waste 18g of coffee.

For travel I would look for a different grinder but that's because I'd prefer something that fits in my Aeropress. I believe 1z makes a slim model that fits inside one.

Construction is all metal except for a clear plastic lid on top and the rubberized grip piece, and it feels durable. The handle has a big wooden knob that is pleasant to hold onto, and the grip does its job. I believe the cheaper JX doesn't have a grip and I think 1z should reconsider that because the metal is a bit slippery if you hold onto that part.

Overall this is the best all around coffee hand grinder and at a great price. It is capable of every coffee method under the sun and produces a good quality grind that will let you make coffees that are as good or better than your favorite cafés. For true espressoheads or Aeropress travelers there are other hand grinder models (including from 1z) that are more tailored to you but this one will not disappoint you either.

Our first premium hand grinder. And probably our last. It’s that good. We use this for our Bialletti Venus 10-cup moka pot and set the grind to 0.8mm. This is 64 small clicks from zero, which is one full rotation of the adjustment dial and a further rotation to the number “6” (if you’ve zeroed the dial). The approx. 32g of beans that this can grind in one go is perfect for making pleasantly 2 large cups of strong moka coffee that’s not too intense in bitterness. If you want espresso intensity then you’ll need to grind an additional 5-7g of beans. It grinds consistently every time with minimal effort in under a minute. It’s an enjoyable almost zen-like part of my morning routine. The brush that’s included has a soft and hard brush that’s perfect for cleaning the grinds out. It’s easy enough to disassemble. I was unable to twist off the bottom grinder ring to clean inside the grinding area, but I see no need to clean this thing that meticulously. My only complaint is that I had a heck of a time trying to zero the dial. I looked it up on Youtube and online and couldn’t quite figure it out. Luckily, I somehow zeroed it perfectly as I fumbled around, but don’t ever ask me to do it again. We had a $100 Capresso electric burr grinder before this and it crapped out in 2 years. This will probably last me many many years. It’s a little pricey but you’ll not be disappointed in the consistency, durability, and the overall grinding experience.

This coffee grinder is a very good choice for small batch grinding.I use this grinder daily (for a couple of months). It is easy to use and to set to the grind that you want. The grinder is extremely well made and seems that it will last a long time. There is a lot of info on line to help with any questions you may have for setup and maintenance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably One of the Best Grinders to Grab Within the Indian Market
Reviewed in India on May 24, 2021
The Indian market is really bad / inflated with really sky high prices as the supply is low vs demand for it. I was a bit skeptical at first as I have used the worst 800 INR hand grinder that would take a solid 2-3+ mins to grind to an acceptable pour-over grind size.

However this grinder allows such micro adjustments that after a fair few grind setups, finally it started producing the grind I wanted. And oh boy the difference was 100x better. I can't believe my life existed beyond this when my initial grind was done incorrectly through the cheap grinder and now this grinder has bumped my love for light roasted pour overs to a whole new dimension.

Highly recommended for people either want a solid grinder that would last them as a handover to the next gen or want to change their coffee setup. If you already have a pretty decent hand grinder like a Commandante etc. then it's not worth it imo to change grinders for a +/- 5% extra gain/loss vs someone like me who had a terrible grind setup and this is the holy grail now.
